Trio Lacroix|Moser|Sterev in rehearsal:: Minoritensaal Graz, January 2008

Updated: 05 September 2008

Immediately following the first performance of Salecich's re.saturate.d in the Minoritensaal Graz on 31. January of this year, Trio Lacroix|Moser|Sterev were willing and eager to play the work again, this time in Vienna's Echoraum later this month.

The fast-paced composition takes the performer on a whirlwind ride. Through constant time changes and a dense notation, there is little time for thinking of what your neighbour is doing. "Without a doubt, it's a difficult work - but it can be done", explains Krassimir Sterev, the accordionist in the ensemble.

When the work comes together, however, there is a strong rhythmic drive that pushes it forward. With the help of the composer as conductor, re.saturate.d overcame many pre-rehearsal timing difficulties and secured a quality first performance, where the performers found themselves, with conductor, free to focus on music-making.

Nevertheless, being stuck with difficult scores is not entirely unusual for this experienced bunch.

All performers are highly experienced in playing contemporary new music. With Sterev, a long-standing member of Klangforum Wien and well-travelled international soloist, Flautist Sylvie Lacroix as both the founding member of Klangforum Wien and early music specialist, and the componist and cellist Michael Moser, whose projects include a recent installation in Berlin and work with his experimental ensemble polweschel, the combined knowledge and experience of the ensemble is by and large unparalled. Their standards and work ethic is unusually high, and they do not shy away from promoting and performing the works of younger composers.

With this new performance at the Echoraum, Vienna, the trio are looking forward to the challenge of expanding on their initial interpretation of re.saturate.d, and to presenting other works of the newer generation of composers from around the world.

Performance: 22.09.08 | 20:00 Echoraum, Sechshauser Straße 66, 1150 Wien, Austria, with works by Uday Krishnakumar, Marcel Reuter, Daniel Salecich and more.
