re.saturate.d (2007)_

In the fast-paced landscape of re.saturate.d, intuitive responses have been fully written-out. Re.saturate.d has been written as if composed directly on the stage: improvised. In this way, re.saturate.d is the twin-brother of wireless, where in both these works, the rules of ultra-modernism through improvisation still apply. In re.saturate.d, there is also a form of complex and obscure repetition at work. This is derived from the idea of a "saturated" chemical solution—but in this case it is "re-saturated", i.e. remixed into the texture at hand. As the work progresses, the repetition of certain musical figures gradually dissolve into the underlying texture.

For the philosopher Roland Barthes, each moment of excess, that is, the "edges, the seam, are unpredictable ... so structural analysis (semiology) must recognise the slightest resistances in the text, the irregular pattern of its veins." To do so questions also the validity of excessive spontaneous improvisation, in favour of a maniacal exactitude in the presentation of "musical" text: which seems a far greater derivative for inducing pleasure (The Pleasure of the Text, 26, 37-38). In this way, re.saturate.d takes an exacting approach to improvisation in a way that is challenging and yet exciting for performer and listener alike.
